Volunteer: Foster Care Journey BagsDid you know every week across the United States children enter foster care often with nothing but the clothes on their backs? We want to do something about that by making up quality Journey Bags filled with personal and comfort items for children to call their own. We want to bless them and show that they are loved, prayed for, and remembered! WAYS TO GET INVOLVED Purchase and build an entire Journey Bag. (See below for more details.) Purchase items separately and bring them to the church for assembly at another time. (See the "What Goes Inside a Journey Bag" list for specific items -- every bit helps!) Join the Journey Bag team by sorting and tagging journey bags. A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND One complete Journey Bag typically costs around $100. Items should be placed in a quality duffle bag, rolling carry-on suitcase, or backpack with a zipper (no drawstrings), as it may be the only thing that stays with a child for an extended period. To maintain consistency for all children receiving a Journey Bag, please provide every item on the age-specific list. All items should be new. Narrow Gate Horse Ranch is a growing ministry to at-risk youth from Howard county and the surrounding area. Please see our website to understand more about our ministry. NGHR is in need of a Volunteer Coordinator to help manage the new volunteer applicants and their application process. A Volunteer Coordinator is the first point of contact for applicants and an important bridge to helping them understand and get plugged into our program. This opportunity can be done from home with little or no expectation to come to ranch unless you would like to. You are always welcome to come out and help with volunteer engagement! The Volunteer Coordinator needs to be comfortable on the phone and communicating via email to prospective volunteers. There is also a need to follow up with documentation requirements. This position may require 3 - 7 hours a week. This is a fun position that is a great way to network with other believers in our community! Please let Emily Pier know if you have any questions! Volunteer: Greeter
Narrow Gate Horse Ranch is a growing ministry to at-risk youth from Howard county and the surrounding area. We help at-risk kids learn important life and social skills with a mentor and a horse. Please see our website to understand more about our ministry. As we increase our availability and frequency of classes to better serve our community, we have a growing need for greeters. Greeters meet the students and their adult before their class starts. During the hour and fifteen minute class, the greeter will stay with the parents to facilitate good relationships and answer questions. Greeters should be comfortable chatting with newcomers as well as familiar attendees. Greeters should be comfortable listening and encouraging people from all walks of life. Greeters are encouraged to sign up for the same weekly class to help build relationships and rapport with the students and their caretakers. So, volunteer time is about 1.5 hours once a week for 6 weeks. Our classes run in 6 week rotations. If you are interested, reach out to Emily Pier at Narrow Gate to try a class time as a greeter together! Serving as a greeter is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to love on members in our community who may really need to hear about Jesus and his love for them. Volunteer: Habitat for Humanity Kokomo House Build Meal DonationWe are getting ready to start our newest partner family house build, and we are looking for individuals and/or groups who would like to donate meals on build days. These days are typically on Saturdays every week until the completion of the house. Because of the time of year, and possible bad weather we may not be able to build every Saturday. We will update our Facebook page for any inclement weather delays. On these days we will have many volunteers and we like to provide the volunteers with food, drink, and if possible dessert. This would be a great opportunity for a church group looking to serve, or for a group with children under the age of 16 who can not volunteer at the build site. If you would like to get on the schedule for an upcoming Saturday, please contact our office at (765) 452-2185 and we will be more than happy to help you with all the details and setup.
